GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Two West Michigan K-9s are going head to head to see who can raise money for a bullet-resistant vest faster.
K-9 Red from the Michigan State Police Grand Rapids Post is taking on K-9 Kratos from the Hart Post to raise funds for the vest, MSP said in a social media post.
The fundraising efforts are through 30×30, which helps raise funds for K-9 units, first responders or other emergency community needs. It takes on 30 campaigns for 30 days.
Both fundraisers are working to buy a bullet-resistant vest for the K-9s. The K-9 that fundraises faster will get a treat from Biggby Coffee, MSP said.
“One of these canines has NEVER had a pup cup,” MSP said in a tweet.
As of Friday around noon, the two fundraisers were neck and neck, with one taking a slight lead. The fundraiser for Red with the Grand Rapids post had raised $830, while the fundraiser for Kratos with the Hart post had raised $1,000. The goal for each fundraiser is $3,500.
Any surplus funds will go toward other K-9 needs.
30×30 recently helped the Grand Rapids Police Department fundraise to buy vests for eight K-9s.
Along with bullets, the vests can also protect the dogs from things like stabbings, shrapnel and other hazards.
