GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A Michigan State Police trooper and his K-9 found a missing teen Monday after a 4-mile trek.

The 15-year-old had been missing since Thursday, when she was seen leaving her Wexford County school, MSP said. Troopers say the teen had run away from those who tried to contact her.

On Monday, the teen was spotted in the woods. The K-9 and its handler tracked the teen through “thick terrain” for about 4 miles, MSP Seventh District, which covers the northern part of the lower peninsula, said in a social media post.

Bodycam footage posted by MSP shows the moment the trooper found the missing teen.

“I’ve got her,” the trooper says over the radio after approaching the teen.

After greeting the teen, he invites her to pet the K-9.

“You want to say hi to him?” he asks. “He’s friendly. You can pet him — just don’t take his ball.”

The trooper then brought her back to a patrol vehicle, MSP says.

“That’s a good boy Ox!” the MSP Second District said in a social media post.
