GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A Cedar Springs Public Schools employee has been arraigned on child pornography charges.

Mark Labelle, 35, was arraigned Wednesday on aggravated possession of child sexually abusive material and using a computer to commit a crime.

Court documents say Kent County sheriff’s deputies got a call Aug. 24 from Labelle’s wife, who told them she had seen child pornography on his cellphone. Investigators said they didn’t find any explicit images of children on his phone, but they did find some on his laptop.

According to the court documents, Labelle “admitted to having an addiction to pornography” when interviewed by deputies.

Labelle was arrested Tuesday, but he has been on administrative leave from Cedar Springs Public Schools since it learned of the investigation on Aug. 26. The district said in a letter to families that he did not interact directly with students. The Kent County Sheriff’s Office told News 8 he was a maintenance worker at the district.

The district added that it has no indications that any Cedar Springs students were involved in the case.

Labelle is expected back in court Nov. 13 for a hearing. Each of the charges he faces are felonies punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
