GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A Cedar Springs school employee was arrested Tuesday on child porn charges, authorities say.

Cedar Springs Public Schools told parents in a letter that the man “did not work directly with students, and we have no indication that any of our students were involved.”

The 35-year-old Greenville man — whose name was not released — faces charges of aggravated child sexually abusive material and using a computer to commit a crime, the Kent County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to News 8.

The sheriff’s office said it has been investigating him since August after learning he “may be in possession of illicit images of children.”

In a letter obtained by News 8, Cedar Springs Public Schools said deputies told school leaders of the investigation on Aug. 26. The man was placed on administrative leave immediately, the district said.

The district said it has asked for a copy of the police report.

It added that the safety and well-being of students was its top priority, telling parents that applicants undergo background checks.

“Continuous training and attention to student safety and well-being is an ongoing focus in our district,” the letter says.

It urged anyone who knows of a crime to call 911 or submit a tip through statewide reporting program OK2Say.
