GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — After nearly three days of on-and-off showers, the rain is coming to an end Wednesday.

Though a few isolated sprinkles will be possible into the afternoon, high pressure begins to build for the end of the week.

SIGNIFICANT RAIN TOTALS

The mild and dry weather comes on the heels of several inches of rain across West Michigan. Over the past three days, Grand Rapids has seen 1.33 inches of rain, with other locally higher totals through Allegan, Barry and Ionia counties.

DROUGHT PERSISTS FOR NOW

A moderate drought (level 2 of 5) continues across much of West Michigan. Northern Michigan is trending slightly drier where a severe drought remains in place.

There may be some improvement as the new drought monitor is released Thursday morning. Each week’s drought monitor is valid from Tuesday morning through the following Tuesday. Any rain that fell after 8 a.m. on Tuesday will be incorporated next week.

At least one county in West Michigan has been in drought conditions since early September. Since that time, the deficits across the region range from 0.09 inches to 3.89 inches.

Luckily, most cities are reporting near or above average rainfall for the year to date. Dry conditions are expected to persist through Saturday.
