GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Dry weather has dominated West Michigan throughout the month of September.

Month-to-date, only 0.26 inches of rainfall has occurred in Grand Rapids and we won’t be tacking on much to that total in the near future. This comes on the heels of what was also a drier-than-normal August, when Grand Rapids carried a rainfall deficit of 1.28 inches. It’s currently the second driest September on record.

Measurable rainfall has occurred on only one day in the month of September, on the 5th.

We’ve now assembled our longest streak of dry weather in 2024 at 11 consecutive days and it’s expected to run on for a while longer as high pressure deflects away rain and storms.

The drought monitor updates on Thursday and will give a clearer look at some of the potential impacts of our dry streak in West Michigan. Over the past 30 days, most locations have received about a quarter to half of their typical amount of rainfall.
