Cold, snow: sharp pattern change ahead

THANKSGIVING Trending dry for most of the day. A quick patch of rain or snow is possible, but nothing will accumulate during daylight hours. Afternoon highs in the 30s with a glimpse of sunshine possible. Wind will gradually increase from the northwest during the day. Light snow showers are possible from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. with snow becoming steadier as the night continues. A few strong lake-effect snow bands are possible closer to midnight with roads becoming slick.

TONIGHT Lake effect snow is expected. The current set-up favors two or three strong bands of snow. This will lead to a spread in accumulation overnight. Overall 1-3″ is expected by daybreak.

BLACK FRIDAY Lake effect snow will be persistent all day, with a few strong bands of snow still favored. This will once again lead to a spread in snow totals across the area, but everyone in West Michigan is expected to see 1-4″ by 10 pm with some isolated 6″ amounts possible under stubborn snowbands.
Gusty winds will carry snow as far as Lansing. Watch for quick changes and variations in visibility with the wind. Highs will be near 30 with untreated roads becoming slick.

WEEKEND Lake-effect snow chances continue for Saturday and Sunday. There will be some dry hours in the mix and overall snow totals are expected to be lower than Friday. Temperatures remain frigid with highs struggling to reach 30.

LOOKING AHEAD Staying cool and staying snowy into early next week. Lake-effect snow chances linger through Wednesday.
