Tigers add ‘climate-controlled’ seats to Comerica Park’s new VIP section

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The Detroit Tigers are showing off their latest Comerica Park innovation: “climate-controlled seats.”

According to Ilitch Sports & Entertainment, the seats were custom designed by a Spanish company and use climate cooling technology developed in Traverse City to heat or cool seats, using a “marine-grade vinyl” to reduce UV absorption and keep the seat cooler under the sun.

The new addition will be exclusively in the new “Home Plate Club,” the section of seats immediately behind the plate, between the two dugouts.

In addition to the climate control, the seats will be padded and wider than the typical ballpark seat, and have wider armrests, a higher back and an extra foot of legroom.

“From Opening Day 2025, fans will have maximum comfort enjoying games from seats with innovating heating and cooling features unprecedented in professional sports,” Ilitch Sports & Entertainment President Ryan Gustafson said in a statement. “As we move into the heart of construction for the Home Plate Club, we’re curating an authentic Detroit atmosphere and integrating innovative elements to give it a unique experience.”

The Home Plate Club will serve as the stadium’s new VIP section, including a separate lounge area, a private entry into Comerica Park, VIP parking, exclusive restrooms, food and beverage service and other “curated amenities.”

Construction is already underway, and the seats are expected to be ready in time for Opening Day on April 4, 2025. Work on the lounge area is expected to wrap up sometime during the season.
