GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The Lions pulled out yet another come-from-behind win on the road, but they may have lost one of their key contributors in the process.
Sam LaPorta left Sunday night’s 26-23 win over Houston after taking a hard hit while bringing in a 37-yard catch early in the third quarter, setting up a David Montgomery touchdown.
LaPorta fell to the turf hard on his left shoulder while making the catch but didn’t show any notable signs of being hurt and stayed in as a blocker for the following play. But he was eventually evaluated for a shoulder injury and ruled as questionable to return.
According to the NBC broadcast, LaPorta spent about 10 minutes in the team’s sideline injury tent.
The Detroit Free Press reported that LaPorta was in a sling following the game and wasn’t using his injured shoulder much.
In his post-game press conference, head coach Dan Campbell indicated LaPorta suffered a sprain to his AC joint.
“I don’t know how significant it will be. This is not, you know, he’s going to be out four weeks or whatever. Maybe he might miss this week. We’ll see,” Campbell said. “He tried to go back in, and it just wasn’t quite right.”
LaPorta is expected to be re-evaluated by team doctors Monday to get a better idea of the extent of the injury.
With or without LaPorta, the Lions will prepare for their second of three consecutive games against AFC South opponents. Detroit (8-1) will host Jacksonville (2-8) on Sunday at Ford Field. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
