SHERMAN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Authorities say a driver was arrested after he hit and killed a 10-year-old child in St. Joseph County.

The St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office said it received a report on Monday of a car hitting multiple school-aged children near the intersection of Banker Street and Balk Road in Sherman Township, northwest of Sturgis.

When deputies arrived, the sheriff’s office said they discovered a 29-year-old Vicksburg man was heading westbound on Banker when he hit one of the children. The 10-year-old child was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver was arrested and taken into custody on felony charges. He is expected to be arraigned on Tuesday. His name has not been released.
