OLIVE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office announced the appointment of the new undersheriff.

On Monday, the sheriff’s office and Sheriff-elect Eric DeBoer announced that David Kok will be appointed the new undersheriff, effective Jan. 6.

Kok has more than 25 years of law enforcement leadership experience, including the Police and Academy Director for Grand Rapids Community College and the chief deputy of the Kent County Sheriff’s Corrections Division from December 2018 to November 2021.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice/police science from Grand Valley State University. He attended the advanced leadership programs at the FBI National Academy and the School of Staff and Command at Michigan State University.

“Director Kok’s long history of leadership in the areas of patrol and corrections, his dedication to mentoring new recruits through both the corrections and police academies, and his experience leading an agency with similar values through times of agency growth make him a perfect choice for the position of Undersheriff here at the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office,” DeBoer said in a news release.
