HOLLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A stretch of road north of Holland was shut down Wednesday night after over 40 vehicles slid off the road or got into minor crashes, the sheriff said.
Part of 120th Avenue in Holland Township iced over, making travel difficult, wrote Ottawa County Sheriff Steven Kempker around 11:10 p.m.
“There are numerous vehicles, upwards of 40 off the roadway and minor crashes,” he wrote.
The sheriff’s office has closed 120th Avenue between New Holland Street and Fillmore Street and told drivers to avoid the area, travel cautiously and slow down on the icy roads.
The sheriff’s office and local fire agencies are responding to the area.
Widespread, heavy snow is expected overnight Wednesday, and temperatures should drop before midnight with a transition to lake-effect snow in West Michigan. Thousands were without power as the storms rolled through. Many school districts canceled classes for Thursday amid the snow.
