BENONA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Authorities say a motorcyclist was injured in a crash near Silver Lake over the weekend.

The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office said it received a report of a crash involving a motorcyclist around 3:30 p.m. Saturday on S. 18th Avenue south of Warren Road in Benona Township.

The sheriff’s office said the motorcyclist, a 50-year-old Manistee man, was heading southbound when he tried to pass the vehicle ahead of him in a no-passing zone. As he tried to pass, the car turned left into a parking lot and struck the motorcyclist.

The man was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, according to the sheriff’s office.

The vehicle’s driver, a 59-year-old Mears woman, was not injured.

The sheriff’s office said investigators do not believe alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash.
