NORTON SHORES, Mich. (WOOD) — Authorities say two people were killed after a crash in Norton Shores on Saturday.

The Norton Shores Police Department said the crash happened around 4:30 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Grand Haven Road and Sternberg Road.

When officers and firefighters arrived, the police department said they found a 2018 Honda CRV and a 2016 Honda Accord in the intersection. Investigators said the Honda CRV was heading northbound on Grand Haven and failed to stop at the red light, hitting the westbound Honda Accord.

The driver of the Honda CRV, an 84-year-old Norton Shores resident, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other driver, a 71-year-old Norton Shores resident, was taken to the hospital, where they were later pronounced dead, according to a news release. Their names were not released.

The crash remains under investigation.
