GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Pete Hoekstra, chairman of the Michigan Republican Party, has been nominated by President-elect Donald Trump as the United States Ambassador to Canada.
Trump announced the pick Wednesday.
“Pete will help me once again put AMERICA FIRST,” he wrote in a statement.
Hoekstra served as ambassador to the Netherlands during Trump’s first term and previously represented Michigan’s Second District in Congress for two decades. He also served as chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, all accomplishments noted in Trump’s announcement letter.
“He did an outstanding job as United States Ambassador to the Netherlands during our first four years, and I am confident that he will continue to represent our Country well in this new role,” Trump wrote.
