GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — More than 110 dogs surrendered by commercial breeders are being brought to Michigan to be cared for and eventually put up for adoption.

The BISSELL Pet Foundation says it is part of an operation cracking down on multiple breeders in the Midwest, securing nearly 200 dogs in total.

The animals will be transported north from Missouri on Saturday and spread across 11 different animal shelters across Michigan.

Five of them are in West Michigan: The Humane Society of West Michigan in Grand Rapids, Big Lake Humane Society in Muskegon, Harbor Humane Society in Olive Township, the SPCA of Southwest Michigan in Kalamazoo, and the Ionia County Animal Control & Shelter in Ionia.

Each dog will be examined by veterinarians, vaccinated and provided with proper paperwork to legally set them up for adoption.

“BISSELL Pet Foundation’s aid includes funding for immediate medical support, boots-on-the-ground aid from foundation staff and animal welfare industry experts, transport and placement,” the organization said in a statement.

The BISSELL Pet Foundation is partnered with more than 6,000 shelters and rescue groups across the United States and Canada.

The local shelters taking in the dogs will announce when those animals will be available for adoption.
