Liz Cheney endorses Slotkin, Lindsey Graham backs Rogers

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A former Republican congresswoman was in Grand Rapids to rally voters after endorsing Elissa Slotkin for Michigan’s open U.S. Senate seat.

Liz Cheney and Slotkin spoke to hundreds of people at a banquet hall on the West Side Monday. Cheney said Slotkin is exactly the person both Michigan and Washington needs.

News 8 asked if she considers herself a Republican.

“I am a conservative and I certainly think that the Republican Party needs to get back to some of the focus on policy and substance that we used to be focused on and engaged in. I think as we look toward how as a country we are going to heal and come together after this election, it’s so important that you have people from across the political spectrum doing things like coming here to support Elissa,” Cheney said.

She also endorsed Slotkin in 2022, which was the first time she threw her support behind a Democrat.

On the other side of the state in Oakland County, U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) campaigned with Mike Rogers, who is running as a republican for the same open Michigan U.S. Senate seat.

Graham and Rogers attended an event put on by the Republican Jewish Coalition encouraging Michigan Jewish voters to vote for both Rogers and Republican presidential candidate former President Donald Trump.

Mike will join President (Donald Trump) in being a strong voice for Israel in our nation’s capital, and help bring peace to the world,” Graham wrote in a social media post Monday night.
