ONEIDA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A woman and two young children with Lake Odessa ties were killed Thursday in a crash in Eaton County, authorities say.
It happened around 8 p.m. at Mt. Hope Highway and Cochran Road in Oneida Township, according to a release from the Eaton County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies say a van was heading west when it failed to stop at the stop sign. The van entered the intersection and was hit by a northbound semi-truck, according to the sheriff’s office.
The van’s driver and two of her children died on scene, deputies say. They say a third child was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

The Lake Odessa Fire Department identified the people who died as Emily, Amalia and Shiloh Root, family members of a volunteer firefighter.
“It is with broken hearts we extend our deepest heartfelt condolences, to our Brother in Service, on the loss of his beloved Wife and 2 young children,” the Lake Odessa Fire Department wrote in a social media post.
Meal delivery is being organized for the family.
