PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Family has identified the young man who was killed in a motorcycle crash in Plainfield Township Saturday night.
Josh Vodry, 21, of Plainfield Township, died from his injuries as a result of the crash at Plainfield Avenue and Mark Street. The accident happened around 7 p.m. Saturday, according to the Kent County Sheriff’s Office.
Vodry was riding his motorcycle south down Plainfield Avenue and collided with a vehicle that was turning left onto Mark Street, the sheriff’s office said. Vodry was taken to a local hospital but later died.
It comes just a few months after Vodry nearly died in a crash at Silver Lake Sand Dunes.
Vodry worked at Kaz Transmissions in Plainfield Township, according to his former boss, Josh Kasnowicz. Kasnowicz used to own the shop. For him, it’s like losing a little brother. Vodry became family to him.
“He’s part of my heart,” Kasnowicz said.
Kasnowicz was friends with Vodry’s father, who was fighting an aggressive form of cancer several years ago. Vodry’s dad, Glenn, asked Kasnowicz if he could spend his final days working on cars alongside his son at the shop.
“It was a really special place for him,” Kasnowicz said.
They ended up working there together. After Vodry’s father passed, he kept working at the shop.
“We’ll remember him forever because of the shop and what he did there was his sanctuary,” Kasnowicz said. “He loved it.”
Vodry loved riding motorcycles and working on cars and off-road trucks, Kasnowicz said.

“He had such an adventurous attitude,” he said. “He was not afraid to go try new things.”
The two stayed close even after Kasnowicz no longer owned the transmission shop. Kasnowicz said he checked on him often.
In April, they went out to Moab, Utah, a popular spot for bikers like Vodry. To get there, Vodry drove the Jeep that he and his father had spent years building together.
He brought his dad’s ashes on the trip and spread them over a high cliff. He also built a small shrine in his father’s honor, his family said.
Kasnowicz said that trip was “like the peak of his life.”
“He couldn’t be any happier than being out there,” he said.
In August, Vodry survived a crash at the Silver Lake Sand Dunes. He was riding Kasnowicz’s dirt bike, went over a hill, crashed into a vehicle and flew in the air. The whole video was caught on his GoPro and went viral on the internet.
“He healed really fast,” Kasnowicz said. “His back wasn’t severed, it just had some minor cracks in it, a lot of muscle damage.”
Kasnowicz is only just starting to process the loss.
“You get gutted like that,” he said. “You cared about him so much and he cared about us. We’re family so it’s like losing a brother.”
As he mourns his friend, he remembers Vodry as one-of-a-kind.
“He’s a special kid and we’re gonna keep his legacy going forever,” Kasnowicz said.
