Kalamazoo, Mich. (WOOD) — Seven people showed up at Kalamazoo hospitals with gunshot wounds from two separate incidents late Saturday and early Sunday morning, police say.
Around 11:58 p.m. Saturday, officers with the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety responded to a report of shots fired at a strip mall on Gull Road near Sunnyside Drive in Kalamazoo. Witnesses reported they heard between eight to 20 gunshots.
When they arrived, officers found shell casings and multiple damaged vehicles, with “evidence of a large gathering,” according to KDPS.
Later, a man and woman arrived at a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. They both admitted to being at the gathering on Gull Road, police said.
Another shooting happened around 2:30 a.m. Sunday at a home on W. Paterson Street near Douglas Avenue in Kalamazoo.
Four men and one woman arrived at a hospital with gunshot wounds that were not life-threatening after what police called an “altercation” happened at the Paterson Street location. One victim, who told police they were the intended target, said they returned fire.
Police who responded to the Paterson Street location found several firearms. They are still investigating.
There is currently no threat to the public as these incidents do not appear to be random, Kalamazoo police said.
Anyone with information about either of these shootings should call the KDPS Criminal Investigation Division at 269.337.8139 or through Kalamazoo Silent Observer at 269.343.2100.
