OSHTEMO TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — No students were injured when a Kalamazoo Public Schools bus was involved in a crash in Oshtemo Township Wednesday afternoon, the district confirmed.

Around 3:30 p.m., the afternoon bus was on 9th Street near Meridian Avenue trying to turn into an apartment complex. Michigan State Police say the bus did not yield the right-of-way to a Honda that was headed south on 9th Street and the two collided.

The driver of the Honda, an 82-year-old Kalamazoo man, was injured and taken to the hospital. His injuries are not considered life-threatening, according to MSP. Troopers say he was not wearing a seatbelt.

A representative from KPS told News 8 that all the students and the driver of the bus were safe after the crash. The driver was wearing a seatbelt, according to MSP. The district’s transportation department brought a substitute bus to take students home, the district said.

Police say weather conditions were clear at the time of the crash.

Roads were closed for about three hours afterward for processing and cleanup. MSP is investigating.
