CAMPBELL TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Deputies say a train hit an unoccupied pickup truck that had gotten stuck on the railroad tracks in Campbell Township Wednesday night.
It happened around 10:35 p.m. in the area of Jackson Road and West Bippley Road, according to the Ionia County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies say the truck, a Ford F-150, became stuck on the tracks about half a mile from the nearest road access. When the driver spotted the oncoming train, he was able to get out of the truck, according to the sheriff’s office. The train could not stop quickly enough to avoid the crash.
The driver admitted that he had been drinking that night, investigators say.
The sheriff’s office is conducting the drunk driving investigation, while state police are investigating the train crash.
