BERLIN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — An Orange Township man and two children were taken to the hospital after a Thursday evening crash in Berlin Township.

Around 7:30 p.m., deputies with the Ionia County Sheriff’s Office were sent to the area of South State Road and Bennett Road for a vehicle fire.

Responding deputies learned that a 2012 Subaru Impreza had left the roadway, hit a tree and caught fire.

Bystanders were able to get to the vehicle while it was on fire and open the door so that the driver and the two children inside could get out, the sheriff’s office said.

The driver, a 27-year-old Orange Township man and two children, ages 3 and 9, were taken to the hospital. The sheriff’s office said that the man had injuries that were not considered life-threatening and the children’s medical treatment was precautionary.

The crash remains under investigation.
