ORANGE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A driver has been arrested after a deadly rollover crash west of Portland Thursday morning.

It happened around 6:45 a.m. on E. Grand River Avenue near Gregory Road in Orange Township. The Ionia County Sheriff’s Office says a driver lost control of a Ford F-150, causing the pickup to leave the road, hit a ditch and roll at least once.

There were five people inside. One was pronounced dead at a hospital in Lansing. His name was not released Friday.

Another passenger was seriously injured, though he is expected to survive, deputies said. He was first taken to the hospital in Ionia and then transferred to one in Lansing.

The driver and two other men did not sustain serious injuries, deputies said.

The sheriff’s department said the crash appears to have been the result of excessive speed. Deputies added that at least some of the people in the truck were not wearing seat belts.

The driver, a 27-year-old Grand Rapids man, was arrested. Deputies said they were pursuing a charge of moving violation causing death against him. His name was withheld pending arraignment
