GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — This year’s Grand Rapids Public Schools Turkey Trot has already hit its fundraising goal.

The 32th annual race, set to taking place on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 28, reached the goal ahead of scheduling, raising more than $100,000 for GRPS Athletics, the school said in an Tuesday release.

“The Turkey Trot is a fantastic example of how our community comes together to support our scholars,” GRPS Superintendent Leadriane Roby, Ph.D., said in the release. “The funds raised will directly benefit our scholar-athletes, giving them the resources they need to succeed both on and off the field, court, track or pool. We’re excited to see so many people come out to support GRPS.”

This year’s Turkey Trot is also on track to break last year’s record of 5,835 participants, with almost 4,000 runners already signed up for the 5K. Those still interested in running can sign up online. Registration costs $35 until race day, with a $40 day-of registration fee.

This year’s route has been changed. Runners will start in front of the Van Andel Arena on Fulton Street, but instead of running west to Division Avenue, they’ll take a left and head north on Ionia Avenue. The course will then take runners onto Crescent Street to reach Division Avenue.

The finish line will be at Ottawa Avenue and Weston.

The Turkey Trot will began at 8:30 a.m. The LMCU Mini Trot, a .4 mile loop for those 12 and under, will start at 8:10 a.m.

“We are so grateful to see the overwhelming support for the Turkey Trot, both in terms of fundraising and participation,” Holly Visser, race director for the Turkey Trot, said in the release. “It’s a true community effort to bring this event to life, and we are excited to continue supporting GRPS scholar-athletes. We encourage everyone to join us for a great morning of fun, fitness, and giving back.”
