GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The city of Grand Rapids is pushing the seasonal opening of the ice rink at Rosa Parks Circle to Friday.

The rink downtown had been scheduled to open Thursday, but the city said cold and snowy weather led it to reschedule.

The city also had to delay the rink’s opening last year due to uncooperative weather. In that case, the problem was that it was too warm.

The rink is now set to open for the season Friday. People who had reservations for Thursday can rebook online.

For the first time in three years, prices have been increased to help cover facility operation costs, a spokesperson for the city of Grand Rapids told News 8. The 2024-2025 season prices are $6 for adults aged 18 and up and $3 for children aged 17 and younger. Admission prices include skate rentals. The rink is also offering a 10-hole punch card for those who plan to skate multiple times for $16.

The ice rink is expected to be open until Feb. 22. Hours and any disruptions to the season will be posted on the rink’s Facebook page.

Grand Rapids canceled all Parks and Recreation programs set for Thursday and postponed the celebration for Rosa Parks Essay Contest winners, plus the 50+, fitness and youth classes at Garfield Park Gym.
