‘It’s just been very scary’: Family, police seek missing teen

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Grand Rapids police are asking the public for help finding a missing 16-year-old.

The Grand Rapids Police Department said 16-year-old Cortez McConer Jr. is missing from his Grand Rapids home. It’s unclear when he was last seen.

GRPD said that there have been several tips about his last known location. Specific details have not been released by police.

On Saturday, family members held a search party for Cortez in the Rockford area.

“We are here today searching for my missing 16-year-old son,” his father, Cortez McConer Sr., told News 8.

The teen’s mother, Kisha Haggerty, called the situation “very, very scary.”

“Just not knowing where he is, not being able to get in contact with him, not having the proper resources to find him. It’s just been very scary,” she said.

Haggerty described her son as an athlete and “an amazing kid.”

“He’s not the type to just run away at all, doesn’t have a reason to. He’s an excellent kid and we love him so much and wish he’d return,” she said. “… He’s not a runaway, he’s not a criminal, he’s not anything. He’s a loved child that his parents and family so dearly miss.”

“Cortez, if you’re out there, just please come home,” his father said. “We miss you, we love you.”

“We love you, son,” his mother added.

Family says a $4,000 reward is being offered for information in the case. Anyone with information is asked to call GRPD at 616.456.3380 or Silent Observer at 616.774.2345.
