GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The Corewell Health Fred and Lena Meijer Heart Center in Grand Rapids is celebrating its 20th anniversary.
The heart center opened in November 2004. Over the next two decades, it gained national recognition, according to a release from Corewell.
“We have a wide range of programs, starting with prevention all the way up through transplant,” Nancy Schwallier, vice president of cardiovascular health at Corewell Health in West Michigan, told News 8. “In 2010, we did our first heart transplant. We’ve done over 250 since then. Few years later, we did our first lung transplant. We’ve done almost 400 of those.”
Meijer Heart Center also helped start the Medical Mile on Michigan Street.
