GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The Michigan Board of State Canvassers met Friday to certify the results of the Nov. 5 election.
The election is largely settled, with a possible exception in the 44th Michigan House District in Calhoun County. There, Republican challenger Steve Frisbie received more votes than incumbent state Rep. Jim Haadsma, a Democrat. Because of initial problems tabulating votes, the margin was reduced to only 61 votes.
Now that the state board and Calhoun County Board of Canvassers have signed off on the matter, Haadsma and his attorneys have 48 hours to ask for a recount — if they so choose.
No matter the outcome if such a recount occurs, Republicans will still claim a majority of seats in the House in January.
Correction: A previous version of the article incorrectly spelled Steve Frisbie’s name. We regret this error which has been corrected.
