BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WOOD) — A Battle Creek man was arrested following a Saturday evening chase that reached speeds up to 90 mph and spanned two counties.
Around 8:40 p.m., deputies with the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office were sent to Maxwell Drive in Pennfield Township after receiving reports about gunfire in the area.
Witnesses told officers that a silver Chevrolet Silverado took off from the area at a high speed.
No one was hurt.
Around 9 p.m. dispatch received a call about a Silverado driving recklessly near the area of Columbia Avenue and Capital Avenue. An officer with the Battle Creek Police Department saw the truck doing a donut in the intersection before taking off.
Around 9:30 p.m., dispatch received another call about the Silverado. The caller reported seeing the truck in a parking lot on W Michigan Avenue near Miller Avenue. Another witness reported seeing a Silverado aggressively pursuing a Ford Mustang in the same area.
A Battle Creek police officer tried to stop the truck after the driver of the Mustang asked for help. The Silverado took off northbound on M-37 into Hastings. It turned east then north onto M-43 before heading south through Hastings toward Delton.
The police department said the chase ended in Delton when the driver of the Silverado drove over stop sticks that were set up by an officer with the Barry Township Police Department.
The driver, a 46-year-old Battle Creek man, was arrested on charges of fleeing and eluding, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, multiple weapon offenses, and a probation violation warrant related to several reckless driving reports. He is being held in the Calhoun County Jail.
