TEKONSHA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A suspect on trial for attempted murder took off his court-ordered tether and left the county, leading police on a short chase which landed him in custody.

Around 3 p.m. Wednesday, the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office got an alert from Ingham County to be on the lookout for a 41-year-old suspect from Mason who took off his court-ordered tether and left the county. He had been on trial for attempted murder, deputies say.

Fifteen minutes later, a Calhoun County deputy spotted the suspect’s vehicle near Marshall and tried to pull it over. Instead, the suspect headed south on I-69 for four miles before pulling over near N Drive in Tekonsha Township, according the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office. The suspect was arrested.

Deputies found he had multiple guns and body armor. He was turned into the Ingham County Sheriff’s Office but the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office is also pursuing multiple charges, it said.

Editor’s note: A previous version of this story misstated the way the suspect left the county based on a Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office news release. It has since been updated based on a correction from the sheriff’s office.
