BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WOOD) — An aircraft reportedly slid off the runway at the Battle Creek Executive Airport Thursday morning.
According to the city of Battle Creek, a Velocity aircraft attempted to land at the airport around 8:30 a.m. As the aircraft approached the runway, the nose wheel failed to deploy properly resulting in the skid.
Air traffic control was notified and emergency services were dispatched to the airport. Two runways were closed during a response and investigation. The aircraft was eventually taxied back to the hangars.
The pilot, a Battle Creek resident, was not injured in the incident. The runways were reopened an hour later.
“No one wants to experience a scare like this, but at the end of the day, this really is the best-case scenario because everyone was able to safely return home to their loved ones,” aviation director Philip Kroll said.
