COLDWATER TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Two pilots were unharmed after they landed without landing gear at the Branch County Memorial Airport on Friday, deputies said.

Around 1:35 p.m., deputies with the Branch County Sherrif’s Office were sent to the Branch County Memorial Airport after a plane had mechanical issues.

Responding deputies learned that two pilots, one from Coldwater and one from Vicksburg, took a 1966 Piper PA30 twin-engine plane out for testing. When they were heading back to the airport, they discovered they could not lower the landing gear to land. The sheriff’s office said the plane had to land on its belly off the runway.

The pilots were not hurt.

The sheriff’s office said that there was minor damage to the propellers and possible damage to the undercarriage of the plane.

The crash remains under investigation.
