Barry County deputies involved in deadly shooting

HOPE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Deputies with the Barry County Sheriff’s Office were involved in a shooting where one person died person Monday night, the sheriff’s office confirmed.

It happened when deputies responded to a domestic situation involving a gun on Kingsbury Road near M-43 Highway in Hope Township.

“Deputies with the Barry County Sheriff’s Office were involved in an officer involved shooting,” the sheriff’s office wrote in a release Monday night.

One person was shot and killed. The identity of the victim was not released by the sheriff’s office.

There is no ongoing threat to the public, the sheriff’s office wrote in a news release.

Michigan State Police are investigating the shooting. The deputies involved have been placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure.

While they investigate, police shut down part of Kingsbury Road. Multiple Barry County Sheriff’s Office cruisers as well as state police were spotted in the area.
