OTSEGO TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — The snowfall this weekend came just in time for ski slopes to open up around Michigan, including Bittersweet Ski Resorts which is scheduled to open on Monday.
Staff with the resort say they were keeping a close eye on the weather leading up to this week and were concerned about warmer than usual temps. After this snowfall, they say they have been able to mix natural snow with artificial snow and look forward to opening up on Monday. They say this weather is a stark contrast to last year‘s season.
“Last year we didn’t get much natural (snow). We ended up closing a month (earlier) than we usually do. … It was a real short year. We didn’t ski as many people as we’d like to. I don’t think anybody did, but we’re hoping for a lot better year this year. … Exactly what we were hoping for. We’re going where we have a lot of natural snow on the ground so come tomorrow once we get to actually open at 10 o’clock I think this place is going to look like $1 million question,” Nick Ross, general manager of Bittersweet Ski Resorts, said.
Staff expect to have 14 to 15 ski runs open on Monday.
