GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Ferris State quarterback Trinidad Chambliss has been named a finalist for the 2024 Harlon Hill Trophy, awarded to the NCAA Division II player of the year.

The Grand Rapids native was announced as one of eight finalists Wednesday night by the Little Rock Touchdown Club and the Great American Conference. He is one of two finalists from Super Region Three, alongside reigning Harlon Hill Trophy winner Zach Zebrowski, a quarterback from Central Missouri.

Chambliss has already been named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year. He led the Bulldogs to an 11-1 record and a perfect 7-0 in conference to claim the program’s sixth GLIAC title in the last 10 seasons.

The Forest Hills Northern grad played in all 12 games this year for Ferris, completing 60% of his passes for 2,406 yards, 20 touchdowns and just 5 interceptions. He has also racked up 731 rushing yards and 18 more scores.

He is the eighth player in Ferris State history to be named a finalist for the Harlon Hill Trophy. If he wins, he would be the third Bulldog to claim the trophy. Former FSU quarterback Jason Vander Laan won it in 2014 and 2015, and quarterback Jayru Campbell claimed it in 2018.

The winner will be announced on Dec. 20.

In the meantime, Chambliss and the Bulldogs continue their push for another national championship. FSU beat Central Oklahoma 78-17 last week in the second round of the playoffs and will host reigning national champion Harding University on Saturday at Top Taggart Field.

Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. The winner will advance to the NCAA Division II semifinals.
