JACKSON, Mich. (WOOD) – The gulf coast and the southern states are still working to recover after two major hurricanes.
It’s been three weeks since Hurricane Helene made landfall in Florida as a category four storm. More than 200 lives were lost and thousands of families have been displaced from Florida, to Tennessee and into Virginia.
Consumers Energy answered the call for help by sending dozens of Michigan lineworkers to Virginia to help restore power.
Disaster relief crews are prepared to stay for weeks at a time, bringing enough tools, equipment and staff working around the clock to turn the lights back on.
Consumers Energy has accepted help from neighboring states during major storms and says lending a helping hand is crucial in helping families recover.
“This hurricane has caused catastrophic damage that has leveled entire communities. Consumers Energy hopes we can contribute and make a difference for so many people in need,” said Chris Laird, Consumers Energy’s vice president of electric operations. “Our lineworkers have trained for conditions like these, and they will work around the clock to help get the lights back on.”
