GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) – Community Food Club of Grand Rapids is making some major upgrades to its building thanks to the Consumers Energy Foundation.

The Foundation gives out three “signature” grants each year worth $1.5 million, including its People Awards.

Community Food Club of Grand Rapids was selected as the winner for the Consumers Energy Foundation 2024 People Award winner, and was granted $250,000 to address food insecurity in the community.

CFC is a non-profit, member-based grocery store. It serves as an innovative and dignified approach to food security rooted in consumer choice, member participation and access to healthy foods.

The club is located on South Division Avenue.

The Community Food Club says it will use the grant to make facility upgrades, purchase equipment and make other enhancements to increase its capacity to serve Kent County residents.
