GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) – Playing video games is a fun and normal part of growing up and there can also be educational benefits to it. However, it’s important to know when too much gaming is having negative effects. We have Leah Ewald from Pine Rest here, our Mental Health Expert, with some insight and tips!

Tips:

  • Make sure games are age-appropriate
  • Set when, how much, after homework/chores completed, etc.
  • Engage in conversations about the games they enjoy
  • Provide a visual or auditory countdown about playtime left
  • Give positive reinforcement
  • Encourage after gaming activities
  • Model good screen time habits by limiting your own use
