In 2021, she earned an Upper Midwest Emmy Award for Breaking News Coverage of the August 2020 derecho. A few months later, her team earned an Edward R. Murrow Award in the News Documentary category for “Iowa Derecho: In Their Own Words.”

Sara is originally from Darien, Illinois, a western suburb of Chicago. She attended Iowa State University where she earned her bachelor of science in meteorology with a minor in journalism and mass communication. Sara spent her senior year as president of Iowa State’s Student Chapter of the American Meteorological Society. She spent summers interning at KCCI-TV in Des Moines and WGN-TV in Chicago, as well as working at a local Girl Scout summer camp, Camp Greene Wood.

When she’s not at the station, Sara enjoys trying local restaurants and going for runs. She is eager to explore all of Michigan.
