David Horak, originally from Grand Ledge and a graduate of Grand Ledge High School, joined News 8 in August 2021 as a reporter. He now anchors News 8 Daybreak on weekends, eager to cover important issues for his fellow Michiganders.
Previously, David worked at WVNS-TV in Beckley, West Virginia. He won an Associated Press award in his first year for a report about a coal miner singing the national anthem. During his four years at 59 News, he advanced to become a morning and noon news anchor.
David attended Valparaiso University in Indiana, where he played football for three seasons. He was heavily involved in WVUR-FM and VUTV, the university’s student-run radio and television stations. In 2016, he interned at WLNS-TV in Lansing, covering local sports across various levels. David earned his bachelor’s degree in digital media with a focus on sports broadcasting in May 2017.
Outside of work, David enjoys craft beer, local cuisine, weightlifting, trivia and game shows, and rooting for Valparaiso, Michigan State and Detroit’s professional teams. A music enthusiast, he also enjoys singing, playing piano and discovering new artists.
