GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (ABC 4)—When entering any of the YMCA’s locations, you’ll find individuals of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds working to improve their well-being and embark on health journeys.
During a recent visit to the YMCA Mary Free Bed location, Maranda met Kati Missman, a health and wellness instructor for the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids. Missman is celebrating 10 years of experiencing and recovering from a stroke.
While the medical condition can take a toll, Missman didn’t let this life challenge weigh her down. She credits the support from her community and the YMCA with helping her heal.
“The people I have here, the support I have here, it’s a community like no other,” said Missman. “I say it all the time. These are my people.”
Like Missman, many people have inspiring stories of how the YMCA has positively impacted their lives.
On Thursday, Nov. 14, the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids is hosting its annual signature event, an “Hour of Impact” at Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park. During the event, attendees will come together to celebrate this year’s theme, “Elevate Your Life.”
Tickets are still available online.
