GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (ABC 4)- Thanksgiving is nearly one week away, and the Detroit Lions are spreading holiday cheer by helping local families prepare for the celebration.

Recently, Lions players and staff visited Gleaners with community partners, including Meijer, to pack 5,000 meal kits to distribute across Metropolitan Detroit.

Each kit contains a turkey, a bag of potatoes, fresh apples, and canned and box goods, totaling 38 pounds of food to make a delicious Thanksgiving dinner.

“It’s just a great feel-good moment,” said Melissa Conway with Meijer. “It’s about our commitment to community; it always is, and the Lions share that. We’re excited to be able to do it and make an impact on hunger, and this event is bigger than ever before. We’re able to feed three times as many families as before than we have previously. We’re really excited about the outcome.”
