GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (ABC 4)- National Hispanic Heritage Month is observed annually in the U.S. from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15.
According to a site hosted by the Library of Congress, this celebratory time of year recognizes the ” histories, cultures, and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America.”
West Michigan is observing National Hispanic Heritage Month by hosting various events, including celebrations, fiestas, concerts, storytimes and more for the community to attend.

517 Hispanic Heritage Festival
Join the Lansing community in honoring Hispanic and LatinX communities! The Hispanic Heritage Festival features a large display of culture, art, cuisine, music and education.

Grand Haven Hispanic Heritage Month Fiesta
The Tri-Cities Puentes Initiative is hosting the ultimate fiesta for the community to enjoy! The event features an opening ceremony parade of flags, a fiesta concert with live music and performances, youth activities, authentic cuisine and cultural entertainment.
Date: Sept. 21
Location: Lynne Sherwood Waterfront Stadium, Grand Haven, MI
Time: Begins at 11 a.m.
Cost: Free admission. The evening concert is ticketed.
Ferris State University
Ferris State University’s Hispanic/Latino Cultural Center is hosting various events to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. On Thursday, Sept. 26, from 4 to 5 p.m., enjoy spoken word with Diatribe from Grand Rapids at the DEC fireplace.
On Tuesday, Oct. 8, attend Hispanic Film Night from 6 to 9 p.m. in IRC 120. On Thursday, Oct. 10, have a blast at their Baile (Dance) and Karaoke Contest inside the DEC Ballrooms from 6 to 9 p.m. Winners will receive great prizes!

Hispanic Heritage Month Storytimes Series
Join various Grand Rapids Public Library Branches for fun and educational storytimes highlighting Latinx stories! These events are suitable for kids ages 0-5.

GVSU Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration
Grand Valley State University’s Office of Multicultural Affairs invites the community to “celebrate the richness in culture and traditions for Hispanic Heritage Month.” The event will feature diverse cuisine, custom attire, music, and art from various ethnicities in the Latino/Hispanic community.
