KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — Repairs to the water infrastructure on Tuesday have prompted a boil water advisory in the city of Kalamazoo.

The advisory is in effect for the following areas:

  • Pierce Avenue – From South Westnedge Avenue (western boundary) to South Rose Street (eastern boundary), both sides of the roadway. Does not include the northwest corner and southwest corner of Pierce Avenue and South Rose Street.
  • South Park Street – From Garfield Avenue (northern boundary) to Parker Avenue (southern Boundary), both sides of the roadway. Does not include southeast corner of Garfield Avenue and South Park Street, and the northwest and northeast corner of Parker Avenue and South Park Street.
The area affected by the boil water advisory issued on Dec. 9, 2024, in Kalamazoo.

Everyone in the affected area should boil their water for two minutes before consuming it. It’s safe to bathe in the water without boiling it.

Water main breaks cause a drop in pressure, which can allow bacteria to enter the system. The boil water advisory is precautionary; no bacteria had been found in the system as of Monday.

Authorities say tests confirming the water’s safety should be back soon. They expect to lift the advisory by Friday.
