WYOMING, Mich. (WOOD) — While it might be too late to start thawing out your 12-plus pound turkey, there are still deals to be had for Thanksgiving shoppers at the grocery store.

“Thanksgiving is one of those holidays that most retailers want to win,” Chad Forman a Family Fare store director in Wyoming, said. “With the second year in decrease in overall pricing, we really want to lead the way and show our customers a great value.”

The September Consumer Price Index report found many holiday food staples have decreased in price, including apples dropping 11%, turkey down 2% and potatoes down a percentage point.

“(It is) kind of a little late to get your frozen bird, but we do have them ready at 32 cents a pound (after a digital coupon is applied),” Forman said. “We’re featuring some digital coupons for both milk and eggs, showing our customers a little additional savings.”

Forman said there West Michigan stores are also fundraising for local pantries this holiday season. Shoppers can opt to donate a specific amount, round up their bill or not participate at their own discretion.

“Kids’ Food Basket is one that is near and dear to our hearts and last year, I was able to give a $10,000 check to the KFB, which changed their world,” he said. “We’re excited to do that again and hopefully give them even more so they can take care of our local communities.”
