GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Amid drought conditions, scattered rain showers have moved into West Michigan.
Here is everything to know about the incoming soaking rainfall.
HOW LONG WILL IT LAST?
While it won’t be raining all of today and Tuesday, but several soaking rounds are expected through both days.
A widespread batch of moderate to heavy rainfall is expected Monday morning, before a potential lull in the afternoon. Rain will be most persistent and heaviest north and west of Grand Rapids.


As moisture continues to roll into the Great Lakes, additional rounds of rainfall are expected from time to time through Tuesday, which will impact Election Day.
WHAT’S THE ELECTION DAY FORECAST?
Windy and occasionally rainy conditions are expected as day-of voting gets underway Tuesday.
With the cold front expected to arrive late Tuesday, winds will be on the increase, with gusts potentially topping 40 mph at times locally. That will combine with occasional rain showers and perhaps a few thunderstorms, with the greatest potential for heavy amounts once again north and west of Grand Rapids.

HOW MUCH RAIN IS EXPECTED?
By the time the cold front fully passes through late Tuesday into early Wednesday, rainfall amounts will be significant for parts of West Michigan.
Widespread 1- to 2-inch rainfall totals are anticipated with the heaviest amounts favored northwest of Grand Rapids.

HOW MUCH DO WE NEED THE RAIN?
With much of West Michigan experiencing moderate drought conditions, the rain will be welcomed.
Since early September, rainfall deficits have grown to 3 to 5 inches in most of West Michigan. The exception is the Muskegon area, thanks to one day of heavy rain in September.

WHEN WILL THE RAIN END?
Once the cold front moves through, a return to tranquil weather will arrive for Wednesday and the remainder of the week. A few sprinkles will be possible Wednesday morning with persistent clouds hanging around. Sunshine will prevail Thursday through Saturday with more seasonal highs in the mid-to-upper 50s through next weekend.
