KENTWOOD, Mich. (WOOD) — Donald Hunnicutt has been missing for more than two years and his family is dedicated to finding him.

“We called him Donnie,” said Rebecca Craig.

“He is my first cousin, and he was a cool cat. Like everybody loved Donnie. Everybody out here, Kentwood, Grand Rapids, like he was everywhere. Everybody loved him,” Craig said.

Hunnicutt is described as a gentle soul who was loving and peaceful.

“He would always come over to my house like once a week maybe, even if I wasn’t even there. Whenever he was in the neighborhood he was known to stop at my house and come to visit me and my girls,” said Craig.

The then 56-year-old was last seen at Bowen Station Park in Kentwood after visiting a relative at a nearby apartment complex.

“When he came up missing, he had left my house. And when he left my house, then the next following day there was no Donnie. That’s not like him because he is constantly over my house every day. And with that being said it’s like you know, ‘Wow, where is he?'” Craig said.

Bowen Station Park is near 44th and Kalamazoo near the Kentwood-Grand Rapids city border, but the family said they had issues filing an initial missing persons report because the area is technically under the jurisdiction of the city of Grand Rapids.

News 8 reached out to the Grand Rapids Police Department about the status of Hunnicutt’s case, which is now assigned to the cold case team.

“It is a missing person case with no new facts or viable leads. If any new information, evidence or indication that a crime may have been committed comes to light, it will be reassigned as an active investigation,” GRPD wrote in a statement.

“We just want to know what happened to him and, you know, we just want to find him,” Craig said.

She has been working on Hunnicutt’s missing persons case in any way she can, posting weekly and even daily online to keep his face and story circulating. Family said they were worried Hunnicutt would be forgotten.

“We want him found. We want to know what happened. He didn’t just vanish. We want to know what happened,” said Craig.

His family is asking the public for any small details or information that could help investigators.

“I want somebody to come in and investigate and not throw him to the wayside and think he is not loved. He is loved and he has family and friends that want to know what happened and where he is at, and we want to bring him home no matter what. We want him home,” said Craig.

Hunnicutt would be 58 years old now. He stands 6 feet, 2 inches tall and weighs 170 pounds, with brown eyes. Donnie is known to have different hairstyles, wears a hearing aid and has tattoo music notes and the initials D.H. on his arm. He was reportedly wearing a white T-shirt and either blue or black shorts, according to the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System.
