GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (ABC 4)- For 30 years, New City Kids, a unique non-profit organization in Grand Rapids, has provided hope, support, and education to countless youth living in under-resourced communities, all at no cost.

Dedicated to “loving kids for change,” New City Kids encourages spiritual, leadership, academic, and musical development in a creative and fun environment.

“We are proud to support New City Kids,” said Jordan Richtsmeier and Micaela DeVos Richtsmeier. “Their programming not only offers educational and musical opportunities but fosters a sense of community and spiritual growth. It’s amazing to witness their positive impact on the kids they serve, guiding them to become confident and compassionate leaders.”

Nearly 100 children in 1st through 8th grade who attend the afterschool program participate in various activities, including community fellowship, performing arts and creative classes, music lessons and homework completion assistance.

In addition to these offerings, New City Kids helps high school students prepare for successful futures through college and career readiness by introducing them to universities and offering job experience through paid team leader positions.

“That job experience for the young people is really the transformation path that acclimates them to college readiness, life skills, and seeing a vision for their future,” Trevor Rubingh, founder and president of New City Kids Foundation, said. “It’s amazing what God does through that.”

New City Kids’ impact extends beyond the school year. The organization also offers summer camps where kids can participate in bible-quizzes, games, art, field trips and more.

“Overall, just the community here is just so empowering,” a New City Kids team leader expressed.
