HOLLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A man has been charged after he allegedly took a photo or video up a woman’s skirt at a Lowe’s Department Store in Holland Township in August.
Around 4 p.m. on Aug. 19, deputies with the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office were sent to a Lowe’s on Felch Street near US-31 after a woman reported that she believed a man at the store tried to take a video or photo up her skirt.
Responding deputies learned from the woman that she was initially unaware of what the man was doing until he passed her because of his proximity to her. Detectives reported in a transcript of the proceedings on Tuesday that the woman saw the man bent over.
The transcript says that investigators reviewed surveillance video from the store and found a 39-year-old from Holland who had passed by the woman, bent down and attempted to take a photo or video up her skirt. While he walked through the checkout line, the surveillance camera showed that he had opened his phone and the selfie camera was open.
The man, 39-year-old Mark Edwin Dykema of Holland, was questioned by investigators and admitted to using his phone to shoot up the skirt of the victim, the transcript said.
During the investigation, detectives learned that he is suspected of using recording devices to capture ‘upskirt’ images of videos of females in and around the West Michigan area, the sheriff’s office said.
On Wednesday, Dykema was arraigned on charges of capturing the image of an unclothed person and using a computer to commit a crime. According to court documents, if convicted, he faces up to four years in prison or more but less than 10 years.
The sheriff’s office said his bond was set at $10,000 cash and has been posted.
